Facelifted Skoda Octavia launched in India at Rs 15.49 lakh; features mostly cosmetic changes
Skoda India has launched the 2017 Octavia at a starting price of Rs 15.49 lakh, making the base variant Rs 7,000 lesser than the outgoing version. The top-end diesel variant is priced at Rs 22.89 lakh, ex-showroom India.
The sedan which was globally unveiled by the company in October 2016, has finally made its way to the Indian market with a choice of three engines — two petrol and a diesel. The base petrol engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol producing 148 bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The larger 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine makes 178 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox while the single diesel engine on offer is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that kicks out 141bhp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is, however, available with two gearbox options, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG automatic.
While changes on the new Octavia are mostly on the inside. On the outside of the new Octavia, we find dual split LED headlights, redesigned bumpers, new alloys and revisions to the LED tail lamps as reported earlier.
The inside comprises of a two-tone upholstery, brushed aluminium-effect plastic door pads, bigger touchscreen central console with connectivity to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link make the cabin seem more premium and plush than the previous model. Rear seat passengers too can control the music and air conditioning via an app. The boot space is now a massive 590 litres.
In terms of safety, the 2017 Octavia comes with hands-free parallel parking available, eight airbags on the top trims and four on the base, hill hold function for the automatic transmission variants and a multi-collision braking avoidance system. The new 2017 Skoda Octavia will compete with the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
