MWC 2017: Sony Xperia XZ Premium awarded the 'Best new Smartphone' for 2017
The year’s edition of the Mobile World Congress has ended and we saw some exciting and not so exciting launches. The most anticipated smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S8, however didn’t make an appearance.
The LG G6 turned out be a pleasant surprise and way better flagship device that last year’s G5.
But the show-stopper this year was Sony’s new flagship, well at least according to GSMA. The Global Mobile Awards or GloMo, awarding the best tech companies in various categories this year had over 40 winners.
Sony won the ‘Best new smartphone’ award for their latest smartphone, the Xperia XZ Premium. Samsung did however grab the ‘Best Smartphone of 2016’ award for the Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium was unveiled at MWC 2017 along with the Xperia XZs as a flagship device. Just like the Z5 Premium, the new smartphone comes in a shiny chrome finish and yet again a 4K display. Other features include a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch 4K screen with HDR support and Triluminos display, Gorilla Glass 5 that covers the whole phone, IP68 certification for water and dust, Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, a 3,230mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0, USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner.
While pricing for the flagship has not been revealed, considering it is Sony, we expect an over the top price tag for the smartphone.
